HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?
In order to create links between both the ancillary tasks and main task I had to keep the similar formal style. In the documentary clip there is a formal tone set and text added in a very clear and informative way. The same way in which I hoped to present information in the ancillary tasks. I achieved this by using photographs that were relevant to the documentary clip and topic at hand. Such as the stack of books used in the newspaper advert, all aimed at the same target audience as those that would watch the documentary.
There appears to be more link and continuity between the two ancillary tasks rather than the documentary clip itself. and the ancillary tasks. In some ways this could let the strong link down, if I were to improve it I could have tried to use the same text for the name titles that appear in the documentary clip and the text used in both ancillary tasks. This may have given a recognisable feature to all 3 products. Not only this but I could have used the post 16 education tagxedo that I created for the beginning of my documentary clip in either of my ancillary tasks or a screenshot from the documentary. This would have improved the link greatly - giving the audience a taste or idea of what sort of image was to be conveyed in the documentary. Also allowing them to create links between the advert and the programme itself.
The links across the two ancillary tasks include the text, such as the font used - I kept it the same to keep them both basic and to link the two together. I also kept the same colour of font - I chose white so that it stood out on the background of both the newspaper article and advert. As well as the text, the titles both have the same editing to them - the thick black outline and a white fill, again this was due to the colour of the background and to keep it in link with the colour of the body text. To improve the link between these two products I could have used the 'programme four' logo I created on both pages, or used quotes from the article as the quotes on the side of the book where I have placed other quotes. Another thing that makes the two products slightly different, is the fact that the newspaper article/double page spread actually is a lot darker in lighting and colours in comparison to the bright newspaper advert. Although this could work - as the newspaper advert is supposed to be more eye catching and appealing anyway, and the double page spread is more of a serious review of the documentary.
